Grant: Probe This!
School: Carroll Senior High School

“Probe This” is a Carroll Senior High Science Department grant proposal requesting 16 LabQuest Systems. LabQuests are “stand-alone” data collection and analysis devices controlled by an easy to use touch screen. The units have a 40MB storage capacity and USB ports for students to download data into their personal memory devices for home use. These units are able to directly interface with the school computers allowing students quick access to their experimental data and the ability to create instant, accurate graphs. LabQuests are compatible with multiple measuring devices allowing for a wide range of tests across the science disciplines. Examples of data collection devices include probes for measuring pH, temperature, heart rate, gas pressure, oxygen concentrations, conductivity, motion sensor, colorimeters, and photogate sensors. Experiments in biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, AP biology, AP Chemistry and AP Physic are readily available from Vernier providing teachers with new and innovative experiments to supplement the curriculum. Experiments on the LabQuests will utilize the data collection probes currently available to our CSHS students, making the purchase of the units extremely versatile and cost-effective. The LabQuest systems will move the Carroll Senior High students’ laboratory experiences into the twenty first century by making available some of the latest laboratory technology available for education.
