Carroll Education Foundation's Grant Recipients and Sponsors 2007

Leading the Way with Guided Reading Each Day is a grant requesting books to be used for teaching reading skills in a guided reading session. Each day in the kindergarten classroom, there is a Reader’s Workshop. During this time the children are reading books that are in their reading drawers. The reading drawers are filled with non-fiction books, magazines, fiction books on the child’s independent level, and guided reading books that are on the child’s instructional level. While the children are reading independently around the room, the teacher facilitates small guided reading groups. Each group focuses on teaching a skill or strategy that the children need to become stronger readers. The books provided by the grant will be used each day in the Reader’s Workshop in all kindergarten classrooms.
