Carroll Education Foundation's Grant Recipients and Sponsors 2006

Sponsor: Huckabee & Associates
Grant: Ready…Set…Research!
Teacher: Evangeline Gant
School: Durham Intermediate School

This grant proposal requested that CEF partner with our PTO and a parent donor to provide one LCD projector and one document camera for each of the eight fifth and sixth grade Language Arts teachers here at DIS. The equipment will be used to facilitate the implementation of the new CISD Research Curriculum. Existing classroom computers will be linked to the projectors, the document cameras, and the district nework so that teachers and students will have access to both electronic and print resources at a size that the entire class can see and learn from simultaneously. This equipment will be used to display and evalutate potential sources of information, such as books, web sites, and magazines. Students will then complete their own research projects. I am a fifth grade Language Arts teacher with approximately 75 students total in the three classes that I teach.

Our grant is Ready, Set, and Research.  As part of the district Information Literacy project, our language arts teachers   requested an Elmo which will facilitate the teaching of internet information.  Students will learn the difference between   "Trash or Treasure " when seeking information during the research process.
